Episode 25- Tracy Harvey
This episode of Behind The Goggles is an absolute joy. The wonderful Tracy Harvey chats with me about her wonderful life and the enthusiasm she brings to everything she does.
We recorded this episode from her/home Bakery - The Elwood Sourdough Bakery - which she established with her husband from the home they share along the Elwood Canal.
It is a wonderful local icon and her bread and baked goodies can be found at many local foodstores and markets.
Tracy is a fabulous guest and her acting chops shine through on this podcast. Her background is in performing and she was a local icon for her roles on radio with the Coodabeen Champions, television in comedy shows such as The Big Gig and even a role in the wonderful movie The Dressmaker alongside Kate Winslow and Chris Hemsworth!
As well as those past accolades Tracy continues in the creative arts writing Musicals. She had a few previous productions - one specifically about swimming which we discuss - Out of The Blue. As well as a current work in progress.
Of course this podcast is about swimming and it is actually only recently that Tracy joined the bay swimming group - the Seagals - and was embraced the year round swimming fun! Tracy even joined a group who swam the Beaumaris Cliff Swim - a 3km swim for which Tracy received a trophy for Last Home! It may seem funny to get a last across the line award, but it is really a fabulous achievement for someone with such little bay swimming to do that distance. So huge congratulations are in order.
Over the past few years Tracy has been passionate about stopping the litter that flows from 4 Melbourne catchments into Elster Creek and eventually into Port Phillip Bay which as a seaside playground for many.
Tracy has initiated many campaigns trying to find a Government body that will work to implement litter traps and stop the deluge of garbage flowing into our Bay.
It is estimated over 40 tonnes of litter per year flow unrestricted into our water.
Tracy inspires me and others to continue to lobby all levels of government and government departments to change the management of our waterways. And also pick up the litter that is already there.
You can help by simply putting any trash you see on the street or beach in a bin.
Tracy has been an integral part of the Elwood Community and really the personification of Think Global Act Local.
Thanks Tracy for all you have done - you're a Ripper!
